Costanza started her academic studies at Polytechnic of Turin in 2008.  She holds a Bachelor degree in “Energy Engineering” and a Master degree in “Energy and Nuclear Engineering”. During her Master training, she had the opportunity to take part in some classes and workshops about Safety and Risk Assessment in industrial field; from that moment on, she was striving to devote her work to this branch. She carried out her Msc. thesis during an 8-months internship experience in a consultant company dealing with fire protection and risk assessment for major risk assets. She was in charge of the Safety Report for an up-grading of resin production in a real chemical reactor, in compliance with the qualitative and quantitative standard procedures and with the European and Italian regulation (HAZOP, Seveso Directive 96/82/CE, Seveso Directive 2003/05/CE, Dlgs 334/1999, Dlgs 238/2005, FTA, ETA). This allowed her to experience step by step the different safety analyst’s responsibilities and to rise even more her interest about the risk-related topic due to its need to become a culture to be disseminated rather than a simple discipline.

The further content of her thesis focuses on a critical analysis of the standard procedures of risk assessment. In particular, she investigated the reliability of the results regarding the statistical nature of the main input data: failure rate of mechanical components and some events suffering from taxonomy gap (i. e. human failure). She explored the propagation of the uncertainty related to the input data up to the final results by means of Monte Carlo method. She took the opportunity to get in touch with the new topic of Human Reliability and she immediately found out the paramount importance of this subject and she was really impressed by the variety and the multidisciplinary of the aspects involved.

She is always ready to welcome new challenges, as she is so curious and motivated by the idea of providing a tangible contribution to society and of applying engineering knowledge and technical skills to something worthwhile for human everyday life.

Sergii Kushch

Sergii Kushch has got Bachelor's Degree in Radio Engineering at the Faculty of Electronic Technologies of Cherkasy Engineering and Technological Institute, Cherkasy, Ukraine in 1998. In 1999 he has got a diploma of radio Engineer. The area of his research was statistical Radio Engineering. Hereinafter he worked in a computer firm which produces and maintains computer technics. Since 2008 up to 2009 he was working as an Engineer of electronics maintenance services and automatization of production in department of Chief Power of “Bogdan” Corporation SC “Car assembly factory №2” of OJSC “Lutsk Automobile Plant”, Cherkasy, Ukraine. In 2009 Sergii Kushch has got Master's Degree in Radio Engineering at the Faculty of Electronic Technologies of Cherkasy State Technological University, Ukraine. The title of his diploma thesis was "Synthesis of statistical pattern recognition algorithms of signals that have been taken against a background of non-Gaussian noise". In 2009 he was invited to PhD school which he finished in 2012. The title of his thesis was "Methods of multivariate realization the components of computer systems". Since 2012 he has been working in Cherkasy State Technological University at the positions of lecturer, Sr. lecturer and Associate professor of Department of Computer Science and Information Security. He published a number of scientific papers in international and national journals and took part in international and national conferences. Currently, he is working in the field of Optimization of methods of information protection to improve the safety of interaction between man and computer systems.

Marko Djapan

Marko Djapan graduated from Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Kragujevac, Serbia in September 2008. The title of his diploma thesis was "Development of risk assessment methodology for the changing workplace environment". His orientation and research interest in safety and risk assessment continues in December 2008, when he was enrolled in the Ph.D studies. From January 2009. to 2014. he was research-assistant at home institution with variety of obligations (lecturing and preparation of the teaching material, small project related occupational safety and health, Lean and WCM, maintenance of the technical systems and participation in international and national projects). His great interest for health and safety field culminated with received Ph.D. in July 2014. His Ph.D. thesis is entitled "Improvement of risk assessment model based on fuzzy set theory and prognostics". Through his professional carrier he published number of scientific papers in international and national journals and on international and national conferences.

 

Dragoljub Gajic

Fahimeh Rezazadegan

Fahimeh Rezazadegan received her B. Sc. in electronic engineering from the IUT (Isfahan University of Technology), Esfahan, Iran in 2006. Afterwards, she used to work at the IUERC (Isfahan University Engineering Research Center) for six years. She used to be in charge of designing and simulating electronic circuits. She continued her study in control engineering and took her master degree in Islamic Azad University of  Najafabad, Esfahan, Iran in 2013. Her research mainly was about the problem of trajectory tracking control of mobile robots. She focused on design of the adaptive back-stepping controller for an autonomous underwater vehicle, AUV, in the presence of parametric uncertainties. Currently, she is working on the field of human factors in mechatronics and keeping human-robot interaction safe.

Ivan Gligorijevic

Ivan Gligorijević received the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Belgrade, Belgrade, Serbia, in July 2008. The title of his diploma thesis was "SPR (surface plasmon resonance) based dip fiber optic sensor using multimode fibers – theoretical and practical overview". In January 2009 he enrolled in the Ph.D. studies and in April 2013, he received the Ph.D. degree working in the Biomed group, Department of Electrical Engineering, SCD Division, KU Leuven, Leuven, Belgium. His research was mainly focused on the processing of biomedical signals recorded with microarrays: (invasive) deep brain and (non-invasive) high-density surface EMG recordings. He was also actively involved in the advanced processing of other physiological signals (EEG, ECG) and was assistant teacher on the course "Biomedical data processing" for 4 years. His Ph.D. dissertation was entitled: "Spike train discrimination and analysis in neural and surface electromyography (sEMG) applications". During the doctoral course, he has closely collaborated in R&D efforts with Interuniversity Microelectronics Centre (IMEC), receiving its SLT doctoral grant. This research focused on development and testing of several generations of deep brain recording and stimulation silicon microprobes.
From April-November 2013, he has worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Electrical Engineering Department, SCD Division, KU Leuven, on the advanced array signal processing algorithms. His current research interests include developing algorithms for multimodal processing of biomedical signals obtained from wearable body sensors for the purpose of real-time assessment of physical and mental changes in humans in real-life environment.

Izabela Kowarska

Izabela Kowarska graduated in Automatics and Robotics from the AGH University of Science and Technology, Cracow, Poland in 2009. During this period she worked as R&D assistant at Nidec Motors & Actuators. Her work was related to innovations in automobile actuators for production plant. After that Izabela started PhD studies at AGH UST.  Her PhD research was related to multidisciplinary optimization of vehicles, based on virtual early stage modeling, taking into account disciplines from NVH to ergonomic and human safety. During her PhD she spent some period in Fiat Research Centre in Turin developing automatic methods for multidomain optimization of vehicle structure for European project VECOM. She also worked in another European project Eureka Chasing, continuing her work on a doctorate together with Polish bus manufacturer. Izabela completed her PhD in 2013. During her research experience she learned how factories work from the inside, from the virtual modeling part to the productions site.

 

Darren McDonnell

Darren McDonnell graduated from the Dublin Institute of Technology in 2010 with degrees in both Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing and Design Engineering, for which he won the Institute of Engineering and Technology Manufacturing Engineering Student Prize 2010. During this time he worked as a maintenance engineer within the high output pharmaceutical sector. Upon graduation Darren worked as a mechanical design engineer in the maritime sector for a yacht design company based near Düsseldorf, Germany. This work involved the design, testing, and analysis of innovative ship hulls and supporting structures, which recently won the Automotive & Transport category of the European Aluminium Awards 2012. In 2012 Darren began a MSc (Eng) Masters degree by research in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering with Trinity College Dublin and Mercedes-Benz (Daimler AG), based in the Daimler R&D facility in Ulm, southern Germany. Darren worked as the lead Daimler researcher to oversee the completion of the large EU project ADACOM (Adaptive Control for Metal Cutting). The research centred on developing state of the art manufacturing and analysis techniques for the 5 axis machining of freeform spiral bevel gears to single digit microns of accuracy. Darren graduated from Trinity College Dublin with his MSc degree in March 2013.

Christos Tsiafis

Christos Tsiafis graduated from Technological Education Institute of Serres in 2007 with a B.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering. His first thesis treated noise pollution reduction. After, he proceeded his polytechnic studies at Aristotle’s University of Thessaloniki undertaking a master equivalent degree (B.Sc. and M.Sc.) in the field of mechanical engineering. His master thesis focus on the development of a hybrid method for optimization of industrial manipulator. In these years he also did various internships, in which his obligations were: study and supervision of electromechanical facilities and technical projects, complete licensing of industrial facilities and commercial enterprises and integrated technology solutions and services for industrial applications. After his studies Christos worked as a Quality control inspector and safety engineer at an engineering parts manufacturing company.

Farzad Naghdali

Farzad started his academic studies in mechanical engineering; after the beginning of the bachelors’ study, he was involved in some robotic and automation projects, related to aviation, and he started his new way in management and organizational issues. He also conducted many experimental researches in fluid mechanics and aerodynamics during 2005 and 2010, such as a conceptual design of vertical takeoff and landing unmanned aircraft. Farzad finally graduated from Azad university of Mashhad in 2010. Then he attended the master of science course in Industrial Production at Politecnico Di Milano between 2010 and 2013. He participated in some risk mitigation projects and workshops: his main research fields were intelligent infrastructures and risk assessment of sustainable and innovative infrastructures. Farzad’s Master Thesis was creating ontology for standard description of physical assets and functions of critical infrastructures. This research was a part of a bigger European Commission’s project called ThreVi2. Concerning his job experiences, the latest ones are “Manager of international affairs, department of Toos Trading Company” and “Chief mechanical engineer of Pishrowtab textile engineering”.

Doytchin Doytchev

Doytchin graduated in Machine and Environmental Engineering from the University of Rousse, Bulgaria, in 1998; after this, he attended an International Master programme: “Environmentally Sustainable Process Technology”. Between 2001 and 2003 he developed some environmental researches in Spain: he worked at the University Rovira I Virgily on the indicators for a sustainable city development, and then at the University of Oviedo he studied the sustainable cattle waste management. Furthermore, in the same period he obtained the Master of Philosophy degree. Doytchin is experienced in the field of human and organisational factors through both research (between 2005 and 2009 at the University of Paderborn and EU ADVISES project) and work. From 2009 to 2011 he worked as a Risk engineer for an international insurance company, and as an EHS Expert for an oil tank construction company, in the Netherlands. He also worked as an environmental and safety engineer/consultant at European and International Energy and H&S consulting companies - Encon Services, Management Force group, Ecorys.
In addition, he has experience in auditing and maintenance of the international management standards ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001.

Alberto Petruni

Alberto Petruni graduated in Natural Sciences (BSc) from the University of Milano in 2007. In november 2010 he obtained is MSc in Environmental Sciences at the University of Milano-Bicocca (Unimib). Successively, he worked at the Department of Environmental Sciences of Unimib with a research grant. During this period, he planned and performed analytical experiments to estimate concentrations of micropollutants in environmental matrices for different research projects.

Mohsen Shirani

Mohsen Shirani graduated in BSc Industrial Engineering from Azad Tehran University, Iran. After some years of practical experience on Lean based production and material handling process, he continued his MSc in Supply Chain Management at Chalmers University, Sweden in 2008. He worked as a Supply Chain Analyst and research assistant at department of Management of Innovation and Technology (Chalmers). Mohsen was involved in the Swedish Energy Agency national project, called Energy Efficient Transport. The main focus of the project was Performance Measurement Systems and Energy Efficiency in Logistics by cooperation of DHL, Schenker and DSV.  

During this period he performed qualitative and quantitative research in the fields of Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Risk Analysis and Management, Procurement Management and Business. He cooperated in number of projects for International companies, such as lean production and Value Stream Mapping in SKF, sustainable logistics solutions for Lantmannen agriculture, and Analyzing distribution Network of Volvo Cars Customer Service. Afterward, Mohsen started his PhD in the Marie Curie project (InnHF) at Polytechnic University of Turin, Italy. His PhD research is related to multidisciplinary topic of Food Safety Risk Assessment along the Entire Supply Chain.

Sameer Al-Dahidi

Sameer Al-Dahidi completed his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from the Hashemite University in Jordan in June 2008. Before starting his higher studies in Nuclear Energy, he worked as an Electrical & Instruments Engineer at CCIC in Oil & Gas and petrochemical mega projects in Kuwait and UAE. He finished his higher studies in M.Sc. in Nuclear Energy (Operations and Maintenance Specialty) from École Centrale Paris and Université Paris-Sud 11 in France on September 2012. Also he did his internships at AREVA NP in France in 2011 & 2012; he worked on the development of a new 3D core monitoring system “MAGELAN” and in Design Performance Improvement Management project.

Pavle Mijovic is M.Sc. in Mechanical engineering. After graduating from university of Belgrade, Pavle Mijovic was enrolled at the Erasmus Mundus Master program EURHEO (European Masters in Engineering Rheology), where the main concept of the program was to gain advanced knowledge on rheology and its application in different fields of engineering. During this program, Pavle joined successfully three different universities: “KU Leuven”, Belgium; “Universidade do Minho”, Portugal and “Universita della Calabria”, Italy. Pavle graduated from the EURHEO program on September 2012 and obtained the dual degree as Master of Science in Chemical Engineering (Engineering Rheology).

Nora Balfe

Nora initially studied Aeronautical Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast graduating in 2001 and became interested in how human factors have contributed to aircraft accidents. She then completed an MSc in Human Factors and Safety Assessment in Aeronautics at Cranfield University followed by a year with the Human Factors department on the use of simulation in military flight training. She completed her PhD in 2009 at the University of Nottingham on the human factors of automation systems used in rail signalling, having been sponsored by the UK railway. In addition to her academic qualifications, Nora has experience working in aircraft maintenance, aircraft structural testing, railway human factors, and air traffic control human factors.

Evanthia Giagloglou

Eva Giagloglou is M.Sc of environmental science graduated by the University of Tuscia in Italy. Her orientation is environmental chemistry and her thesis treated energy policy through Multicriteria Decision Making. She also pursued a 2-year master’s degree, “New Technologies and Environment”, organized by the Faculty of Chemistry, at the University of Ioannina in Greece in collaboration with the Alexandreion Technological Institute of tertiary education, ATEI Thessaloniki, Greece. During her permanence in Greece she worked initially as environmental consultant and later as professor at Greek National School of adults responsible for the course of environmental science. The academic year 2011-2012 she worked as short term researcher at Milano Bicocca within the group of Milano Chemometrics and QSAR.

Mehmood Ahmad

Mehmood graduated from University of Engineering and Technology Lahore in 2008 with a B.Sc. Chemical Engineering degree; he obtained a M.Sc. Chemical Engineering in 2011, from Royal Institute of Technology Sweden. He participated in several academic projects during his stay at UET Lahore and KTH Sweden, related to design and Hysys simulation of distillation column, HAZOP analysis of acetic acid production plant, quality management, and waste water treatments for industries.
Mehmood also worked as Internee Chemical Engineer at Petrochemical Industry, by taking part in health and safety workshops, and by performing optimization of waste water cleaning, gas cleaning, reactor and heat exchanger units.
